PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone and a metabolite of melanotan II. It is characterized as an agonist at melanocortin receptors, principally MC3R and MC4R.

PT-141 Structure and Identifiers

Name PT-141 (bremelanotide)
CAS number 189691-06-3
PubChem CID 9941379
Molecular formula C50H68N14O10
Molecular weight ≈1025.2 g/mol
Structure Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH
Form Lyophilized powder

Structure

The lactam bridge between Asp and Lys cyclizes the core His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp melanocortin pharmacophore. The D-phenylalanine increases receptor potency and protease resistance relative to linear α-MSH.

Published In-Vitro Research Areas

Related: KPV, another α-MSH-derived peptide.

Purity Testing and Storage

Every lot of PT-141 supplied by Cleared Peptides is tested by an independent laboratory for identity and purity (or composition, for multi-component preparations), and the lot Certificate of Analysis is published on our COA page. Store lyophilized PT-141 at −20 °C, sealed, dry and protected from light. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening and minimize freeze–thaw cycles. Handle according to your institution’s chemical-hygiene procedures.
