5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small, membrane-permeable quinolinium compound characterized as a selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that methylates nicotinamide using S-adenosylmethionine.

Why NNMT Matters in Research
NNMT converts nicotinamide to 1-methylnicotinamide, diverting it from the NAD+ salvage pathway and consuming methyl groups. Inhibiting NNMT in cell models is therefore used to study NAD+ levels and methyl-donor balance — often alongside NAD+.
